Inspired by the recently released Amerikkkan Justice Department’s National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism (which specifically mentions ‘anarchists’ and ‘anti-capitalists’, espousing ‘anti-government’ ideas or belief, in addition to ‘animal rights’ and ‘environmental’ activists), Jwala presented the first part of a multi-series discussion about State repression, covert policing practices, and State surveillance.

Part 1 of the discussion cited historical examples of State repression and surveillance in Amerikkka and so-called Australia against political movements, by intelligence services. This included a brief overview of tactics utilised by both ASIO and the FBI’s Cointelpro in surveilling, repressing, and sabotaging political movements.

Part 2 of this discussion will be broadcast on 29 July, 2021, and will critique the National Strategy for Countering Domestic Terrorism, explore how covert policing in so-called Australia impacts on activist networks, reinforces systemic racism, further criminalises marginalised communities, and contributes to the deeply carceral (and historic) foundations of so-called Australian society. Similarly, the discussion will explore advances in technology that allow the state to surveil us with ease.

Track list:

1-KSR One- Sound of da Police

2- Hip Hop for Respect – Protective Custody

3- Ryan Harvey- Cointelpro

4- Chairman Fred Hampton Jr. – Cointelpro/ Dec 4

8 July 2021: Women and Gender Diverse Indigenous Resistance

Broadcast: 8 July, 2021

Host: Jwala

To compliment 3CR’s annual Beyond the Bars project and NAIDOC programming, this week’s show focused on a broad theme of indigenous resistance by women and gender diverse people, in occupied so-called Australia, and Turtle Island (so-called Canada).

We played highlights from a panel at the Emerging Writers Festival 2021, exploring prison abolition from the perspective of current and former women and gender diverse prisoners. This panel was facilitated by prison abolitionists Nayuka and Witt Gorrie, and included speakers Ashley Chapman (LGBTIQ/ disability prisoner advocate), Stacey Stokes (trans woman prisoner advocate),Rosalina Curtis (trans woman/ sex worker activist), and Tabitha Lean.

We mentioned the Homes Not Prisons campaign, calling for the Victorian Government to stop the expansion of the Dame Phyllis Frost Center (a maximum-security prison for women) and to re-allocate the $188.9 million budget for prison building, to public housing and support for criminalised women and our children.

The show also included an exert from an interview with Tsastilqualus, a First Nations elder and co-founder of the direct action/ front-line Matriarch Camp. This interview was conducted as part of the Victoria Anarchist Bookfair (in so-called Canada), by the From Embers podcast collective.

The playlist involved fierce contemporary sounds of indigenous resistance and rage from First Nations performers based in so-called Australia and Turtle Island (so-called Canada).

Track List:
1- Provocalz (featuring Ancestress) : Behind Enemy Lines
2- Racerage: Burn
3- Barkaa: Our Lives Matter
4- Dobby (featuring Barkaa): I can’t Breathe
5- JB the First Lady (featuring Dioganhdih) : Front Lines
6- A Tribe Called Red: Burn Your Village To The Ground (Neon Natives remix)
7- Leanne Betasamosake Simpson: I Pity The Country

Support Music For The Global Intifada’s annual Radiothon fundraising efforts

Music For The Global Intifada is broadcast on community radio station, 3cr 855am (3cr.org.au/globalintifada – if you aren’t familiar with the show, you can listen to our most recent offering at this link). 3cr relies on the community to fund the station through subscriptions and fundraising, and our program is responsible for contributing a minimum amount toward the $250, 000, 3cr needs to keep the station broadcasting over the next 12 months.

Hence, 3cr’s annual fundraising event, Radiothon, is due to start soon, and Music For The Global Intifada is responsible for raising our minimum amount of $1000.

The Music for the Global Intifada team will be contributing some of our own funds, however, we also need the support of our friends and community to raise this amount. Hence, we are asking you to consider making a contribution toward our fundraising efforts.

In addition to a feeling of satisfaction and solidarity knowing that your donation assisted in keeping radical radio broadcasting across Naarm/ Melbourne (and indeed across the globe thru digital radio), Music For The Global Intifada, has put together a set of ‘incentives’, to encourage you to donate to our show.

On Thursday 17 June 2021, in lieu of broadcasting a pre-recorded 1 hour show (which takes many hours of volunteer time to create), Music For The Global Intifada will be broadcasting LIVE from the 3cr studios at our usual Thursday afternoon time-slot of 5-6pm. During this live broadcast we will be encouraging people to donate to the program, accepting donations in real time over the phone (a dedicated phone team will assist you in making donations over the phone), and broadcasting our personalised thanks to people who have already donated to the show.

For a $20 donation, we will play a song you request, and give you a shout-out on air.

For a $50 donation, we will play your song request, give you a shout-out, and mail you a handful anarchist/ antifascist stickers or patches.

For a $100 donation, we will play your song request, give you a shout-out, and mail you stickers, and a brand new antifascist t-shirt screen printed by Palang Hitam (Anarchist Black Cross, Indonesia), and a USB full of music of your choice. We will use our mega 4 terabyte hard-drive to compile a personalised USB of music specifically for you.

You can choose a theme for the compilation, for example, music from a particular region/ culture (e.g. Kurdish revolutionary music), music about a particular issue (e.g. pro-choice/ feminist music), music from a particular genre (e.g. punk/ hip hop/ folk), or music by a particular artist- or a combination! We are confident that we can create you a personalised mix that will provide the soundtrack to your every manifestation of praxis and trouble-making!

For any donation over $100, you get all of the above (a song request, shout-out on air, and a parcel in the mail containing stickers/ patches, an antifascist t-shirt, a USB of music of your choice) and we will put together a radio program specifically for you! For example, you might want us to create a show focusing a particular issue and play music that corresponds to that issue (e.g. we could dedicate an entire show to a local environmental issue and play radical environmental songs). Or we could play a track-list that you create over an entire show. If you are based in Naarm/ Melbourne, you could come into the studio and host the show, talk about issues you care about, and play the music of your choice. If you’re outside Naarm/ Melbourne, we could work with you to help you develop a pre-recorded show, assist you to record it, compile the play-list you choose, edit the show, and upload the show, and play it on-air!

(Please note, we will cover the postage costs of mailing your incentives to you).

There are several ways you can donate, which ever way you choose, please specify the donation is for ‘Global Intifada’:

Online: You can donate online here: https://www.givenow.com.au/cause442 . (Please note the donation recipient as ‘Global Intifada’).

In person: Drop in to the 3cr station (21 Smith St, Fitzroy, Naarm/ Melbourne, 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday- there are currently C-19 practices in place at the station, so please ring the doorbell for entry. Please state the donation as being for ‘Global Intifada’.)

By post: Post your cheque/money order to PO Box 1277, Collingwood, VIC 3066. (Please make the cheque out to 3CR, with ‘Global Intifada show’ in brackets.)

By phone: Call 03 9419 8377 (office hours are Monday – Friday 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, however during Radio-thon week these hours will be extended) to pay by credit/ debit card. (Please mention to the volunteer that the donation is for ‘Global Intifada’).

By direct deposit: You can also pay directly into the 3CR bank account: Account Name: Community Radio Federations Donations, BSB: 313 140, Account Number: 1205 9465 (Please include a note that the donation is for ‘Global Intifada’).

During our live broadcast on 17 June, a phone team will take your calls, and you can pledge money to support the show. The phone team will take your card/ payment details and will pass on any messages (or song requests) you have for the Global Intifada crew in the studios. If you don’t have any money on 17 June, but want to pledge money that is paid on another day, it’s absolutely possible and the phone team can assist you to organise it.

If you want to ensure that your song gets played on next week’s show, please email us (global_intifada@riseup.net) by 3pm Thursday 17 June. Similarly, if you’re making a donation that is eligible for an ‘incentive’, please email us your post details so we can organise to mail your incentives to you, and if your donation is $100 or more, please let us know the best way to contact you re- the content of your USB mix and/ or a dedicated radio show.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email us.

Best wishes to all and thanks for your potential support!
